Scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education

Dear Students,

Those of you who have exceptional results and have achieved something extraordinary in the 2016/17 academic year could apply for a scholarship of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. This scholarship is given only to the best of the best students. In order to apply, it is not only necessary to have a very high GPA (not only qualify for the Rector’s Scholarship, but be even better – be in the 5% of the best students) and also eg.:

  • publications in renowned scientific journals or published books
  • active participation in research projects conducted by the UW (not by student clubs etc.)
  • active participation in conferences (as a speaker or scientist, not in the organization committee and not as a visitor)
  • registered patent (not only submitted one)
  • awards in international competitions
  • other things, eg. participation in Olympic Games or world/continental championships in a given sport etc. (being a country champion is not enough).

It is not enough if one has a very high GPA. It is a must, but a student could receive a maximum of 100 points for their scholarship application and only(!) a maximum of 5 points is given for the GPA. It is a must to have extraordinary activities like the ones listed above. Last year students with less than 35,75 points were not even taken into account.

Who can apply for the scholarship? In short: Polish students, students from the EU/EFTA, students from outside of the EU who have permanent residence (eg. “zezwolenie na osiedlenie się” or “zezwolenie na pobyt rezydenta długoterminowego”; having a visa or temporary residence is not enough) or a refugee status or Karta Polaka. The detailed list of who can apply is the same as for Rector’s Scholarship.

How you can apply? Log in your USOS account, and choose „Applications” where you should fill in your application for scholarship form [link]. Next you should print out and sign first page of application and consent to publish your name on the Ministry website, and attach documents stating your achievements.

Deadline for submitting application at the Faculty: 21 September till 3 p.m. It is also necessary to write a request to the Faculy Council to consider your application for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education scholarship and bring it together with other documents.

Information on how to apply for the Rector’s Scholarship will be announced later.
