Registration for language classes in the winter semester 2016/17 (with a course dedicated for WISP Students!)

Dear Students,

Registration for language courses of in the 2016/17 academic year will start today (01.06.2016).

Round I: 01.06.2016 (21:00) - 30.06.2016 (23:59)
(individual registration for dedicated and open groups; limit of tokens spent: 60xLEK),

Round II: 22.09.2016 (21:00) - 04.10.2016 (23:59)
(for full-time students and part-time students; individual registration for dedicated and open groups; limit of tokens spent: 60xLEK),

From 27.09 groups will be open for all the students (no dedication).

Round III: 21.10.2016 (21:00) - 25.10.2016 (23:59)
(during this round students can change classes, register for another course if there are still free places available and deregister from previous course; limit of tokens spent 120xLEK)

You register through the usual registration website: http://rejestracja.usos.uw.edu.pl/catalogue.php. Search for “LEK-2016Z”.

The way how language courses are grouped in the registration right now is way better. Non-Polish students will probably be happy that there is a separate group with foreign language courses taught in English (or Russian) which you will see when you click “LEK-2016Z”. Do you remember that some time ago we asked you (lower years of students) to fill in a short survey on which language you would like to learn for language classes? The result is that French won and German was second. So, WISP and the English program at the Faculty of Economic Sciences joined forces and asked for a group that is especially dedicated for students of WISP and Economics. The Language School at UW gave us this French course: http://rejestracja.usos.uw.edu.pl/course.php?rg=0000-2016Z-LEKTORATY&group=0000-FOREIGN-LEK&subject=4024-FRAOA2-eng&cdyd=2016Z&course_id=311572&gr_no=4. Dedication means that during the first round only WISP students and Economics students will be able to register for this course, nobody else, so students from other faculties will not take spots on this course at first. The French course will probably be rather useful for the future 2nd-year students. We hoped for the German class too, but currently there is no dedicated group for you, maybe something will change in the future. There are German courses open for everyone though and you are welcome to choose them if you want. Of course you don’t have to choose French or German if you don’t want to, but that French one is kind of “reserved” for WISP students at first. You may choose another language. If you speak Polish, you may sign up for any other language course that is taught in Polish. If you are a foreigner, you may choose the Polish language (but there will be a separate registration for that and this one usually opens in September).

If you are currently on the first year (so you will be on the second year next year), remember that you are required to complete 2 semesters of language classes till the end of your third year. Also, till the end of the third year you need to pass an exam in a foreign language (at least B1 level), but it cannot be English. Older students could choose English, but they had to pass a B2 exam. This “B1 exam, but not English” applies to all studies taught in English at UW and it’s not something that WISP created.

Thing to remember: students who have enrolled for the winter semester will be automatically enrolled for the spring semester even if they have no tokens left (this means an additional payment). Students who resign from attending the course in the spring semester will have a chance to deregister from it during the period: 02.02-22.02.2017.
