Linking courses of the spring semester 2014/15

Dear Students,

Some of you may have already heard that now is the time for linking courses of the spring semester in USOSweb. All students need to link their courses. Linking will be open:

  • till 13 March – for courses of the spring semester
  • till 6 March – for language exams if you signed up for an exam in the winter semester’s session.

In previous semesters, the deadline was shorter, many students did not link their courses and as a result the Rector agreed to extend the deadline. This time there will not be extension as the University needs to report students’ courses shortly after the linking deadline. Please don’t leave this matter until the very last moment, because if problems occur, there won’t be time to help you.

As mentioned in the previous announcement about delivering your program for check-up, in order to link spring semester’s courses to the spring semester, your winter semester needs to be finished in USOS. So, if you have all your grades and you have not delivered your program for check-up yet, please do that ASAP so that we can enrol you in the spring semester in USOS.

If you have a make-up exam in the make-up exam session, your winter semester will be closed after you have your make-up grade(s). You will then have to link your spring semester’s courses quickly. If you are missing only grades from make-up exams, you may already deliver your program for check-up. We will this way know, that you have all the other grades (from electives, OGUNs etc.).

A general rule is still that you need to have at least 60 ECTS points linked to the program and stages (semesters) of each year. So, if you are on the first year, you need to link all your obligatory courses to an appropriate semester and enough electives/OGUNs so that overally 60 ECTS are linked to our psychology program and any of the semesters of the first year. If you signed up for courses worth, say, 67 ECTS, it is best to leave the courses worth 7 ECTS as linked only to the program and not to the spring semester. This way you will be able to use these additional ECTS in the future semesters by linking them eg. to your second or later year. If you link all 67 ECTS to the psychology program and to the first year, additional ECTS will not transfer to the next year and you will have to complete 60 ECTS again next year. See the detailed guide on linking for more explanation.

In the past, additional ECTS were automatically transferred to the next year, but with linking it works in a way that they go to the next year if they are linked in a proper way (they will go to the next year if they are linked only to the program). As discussed with the Dean, this year is going to be a transition year, so additional ECTS from previous years will count this year, but for the last time. This means that:

  • If you are on the first year, you should have at least 60 ECTS linked to the psychology program and semesters of the 2014/15 academic year after 1 year of studies. If you are going to have additional ECTS and you want them to transfer to the next year, leave them as linked only to the program. Next year you will be asked to link to the program and semesters 60 ECTS again.
  • If you are on the second year, you should have at least 120 ECTS linked to the psychology program and semesters of the current and previous academic years after 2 years of studies. If you going to have additional ECTS and you want them to transfer to the next year, leave them as linked only to the program. Next year you will be asked to link to the program and semesters 60 ECTS again.
  • If you are on the third year, you should have at least 180 ECTS linked to the psychology program and semesters of the current and previous academic years after 3 years of studies. If you are going to have additional ECTS and you want them to transfer to the next year, leave them as linked only to the program. Next year you will be asked to link to the program and semesters 60 ECTS again.
  • If you are on the fourth year, you should have at least 240 ECTS linked to the psychology program and semesters of the current and previous academic years after 4 years of studies. If you are going to have additional ECTS and you want them to transfer to the next year, leave them as linked only to the program. Next year you will be asked to link to the program and semesters 60 ECTS again.
  • If you are on the fifth year, you should have at least 300 ECTS linked to the psychology program and semesters of the current and previous academic years after 5 years of studies. If you are going to have up to 330 ECTS, all is fine and there won’t be any additional payments. 301-330 ECTS could be linked only to the program, they don’t have to be linked to a specific year of studies.

Attention Students who transferred many courses from some previous universities as OGUNs/electives!

Transferred courses are always linked to the program and semester during which the transfer took place, so for example if you transferred a course in the winter semester 2014/15, it will be linked to the psychology program and to the winter semester 2014/15 in USOS. This may result in you having too many ECTS at the end of your current year. In this case:

  • You may leave all your electives/OGUNs/language courses etc. from this semester as linked only to the program (and link them to future semesters).
  • If you still have too many ECTS, here is a solution discussed with the Dean: you may write a request to the Dean, asking for unlinking your electives from the winter semester 2014/15 and leaving them as linked only to the program, so that you can make use of them during next years. This solution will be used only this year. Making changes in past year is not possible.
