PE classes for the 1st-year students

From this year students need to complete 5 semesters of PE classes during the first 6 semesters of your study.

Please let us know till tomorrow (25 Sept 2008) 14:00 about your choice, so that we could book a place for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What happens if I don't take PE classes this semester?
A: Nothing. You can, but you don't have to. What matters is that you have completed 5 semesters till the end of the 3rd year.

Q: What happens if I choose 2 PE classes this semester?
A: 2 PE classes during one semester count as 2 semesters.

Q: What happens if I choose 3 PE classes this semester?
A: Hard question. The system may not let you take 3 classes.

Q: I don't like the offer for this semester. Is there anything else to choose from?
A: The answer would be "yes and no". There is a bunch of PE classes at UW and they can be found here: http://rejestracja.usos.uw.edu.pl/. This is also USOS, but registration for PE classes, language classes and all-university classes has been given a separate page. These courses are offered to all faculties, therefore there is a lot of Polish and the classes listed there are also conducted in Polish. Some PE teachers do speak English, some of them don't. If you don't care about that, you can of course sign up for the courses listed there through that page. Registration for courses on that page takes place in rounds and the 1st round took place in June or something, so many places are taken by older students. The next registration round for the PE classes from that page is going to start on 29 Sept 2008 at 21:00 and last until 07 Oct 2008 23:59.

Q: On that page with PE classes in Polish, in the course description I can se something like "30xWF (150PLN)". Does it mean I have to pay for that course?
A: No, at least not now. Each student has "tokens" for 6 semesters of free PE classes (in Polish "WF"). One semester "costs" 30 WF tokens. So if you still have tokens, you don't have to pay. If you however use all the tokens, you'll have to buy new tokens, and 30 WF tokens cost 150 PLN.

Q: So all of the courses on that page are free if I have WF tokens?
A: No. There are some which are not and they belong to the category "PŁATNE" ("bezpłatne" means "free" in Polish). There are some additional payments for these courses and it's written in the course description. Sometimes these descriptions are in Polish so if there is no English translation, it may be useful to ask your Polish friend just to make sure that the course you're looking at doesn't have any additional comments about payments.

Q: OK, how about the courses on our schedules? How do they differ from the ones from that page?
A: They are conducted by English-speaking teachers.

Q: I signed up for PE classes but I don't like it and I want to resign, can I do that?
A: Yes, but ONLY (!!!) during the registration period! If you resign during the registration period, there won't be any consequences. After the registration period the system will consider everything final and you'll have to complete the class. If you don't, the consequences will be: 1. the system will 'consume' your WF tokens (so in the future you may need to buy some), 2. the fact that you failed your PE class will be in your record and it will show later in transcripts etc.

Q: So what are the criteria for passing a PE course?
A: There is only one: being present. You don't get any grades for PE classes and you don't get ECTS points for completing them. It's possible however to be absent TWICE. If you are a girl and you chose swimming, you can be absent more times, but I don't remember how many times exactly. The swimming teacher will know.

Q: I was very very ill and I was absent 3 (or more) times. Does it mean I fail the course?

A: No, but you need a doctor's note. You need to show it to your PE teacher during the first class after you've come back to health. If you do it after 2 weeks from your coming back, the teacher might not take it and tell you it's now outdated (you'll fail the class then). Remember that you have 2 weeks to justify your absences!

Q: I have an illness (or something similar) that make me completely unable to take part in PE classes. What can I do?
A: You will have to visit a university doctor who will exempt you from the PE requirement. For details come to the office.

Q: I'm not on the 1st year. Can I take PE classes with the 1st year?
A: Sure! :)
