Scientific Tuesday: Perinatal Adverse events and Special Trends in Cognitive Trajectories (PLASTICITY)

Room 1

Dear Students,

You are invited to take part in another Scientific Tuesday meeting. This time, Prof. Laura Hokkanen from the University of Helsinki (Finland) will talk about the PLASTICITY project.

Abstract: PLASTICITY-study follows a consecutive cohort of neonates, born between 1971-1974 at a single maternity hospital in Helsinki, Finland, included due to predefined risks to brain development: low birth weight, hyperbilirubinemia or low apgar points as the three largest groups. Since birth, the cohort has been followed up longitudinally at 5, 9, 16, 30 and now at 40 years of age. A group of control children has also been followed. The investigations at 40 focus on cognitive performance and examine the long term consequences of developmental deficits, more prevalent in this cohort compared to controls. Structural brain imaging has also been completed and will reveal both developmental and acquired lesions.

When and where: Tue, 28 Mar, 15:15-16:00, room 1
